2023 Personal Tax Checklist
✅2023 Personal Tax Checklist 🇨🇦
Here’s our 2023 Personal Tax Checklist!
Let’s get started gathering all documents for your 2023 personal taxes.
Here is what we ask you to do:
Start by referencing our personal tax checklist on the link above.
Start organizing your documents electronically (we do not accept paper copies) and checking them off on our checklist.
There are plenty of free apps to “scan” your docs using your phone.
The checklist covers most standard items. For any additional items, identify them to our team with brief notes.
If you owned more than one rental property or sole proprietorship business, just duplicate the tab and complete our spreadsheet templates for each.
Once you know you’ve got everything, get in touch your Account Manager on the Think Team who did your taxes last year.
Our team will send you a link to your online folder where you can upload your documents along with the completed checklist.
From there, we’ll get started with your taxes and be in touch with any questions, or when they are ready for your review.
Key Dates (excluding corporations):
Feb 29th - RRSP contribution deadline.
We ask that you submit your documents to us as early as possible. Aim for mid-March. However, for any documents received after April 15th, we cannot guarantee that the returns will be filed on time.
April 2nd - Tax filing deadline for Trust Returns with a Dec 31st year-end and Partnership Returns that only has individuals as partners.
April 30th - Tax filing and payment deadline for personal tax returns for individuals who are not self-employed or spouse of a self-employed individual.
June 17th - Tax Return and HST Return filing deadline for self-employed individuals, or their spouses. However, the payment deadline for both the returns is still April 30th.
We plan to start working on personal tax returns after mid-March.
If You Are Not An Existing Client
If you are not an existing Think Accounting client, note that we primarily work with Businesses, and personal tax returns for business owners. We do not take on ‘Personal Tax Only’ engagements, unless these are for Sole Proprietorships or are complex in nature. If interested, you may reach out to us using this link.
Wishing everyone a stress-free tax season!
